We really did it this time, you guys. Man, us and our big stupid mouths, always getting us into trouble. What a big bunch of goofs we are, huh? A regular bunch of squares.
Ok, this whole mess started when Kirk Cameron said this:
“[Gay marriage is] detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization. … Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part.”
Then a bunch of us got real disrespectful and hateful towards Kurt. We called what he said “hate speech,” even though Kirk’s original comments came from such a loving and respectful place. There was nothing at all offensive or hurtful about what Kirk said, but we had to go and start something where there was nothing, and that was wrong of us. Kirk chastised us good though, when he said this:
“I should be able to express moral views on social issues,” he said, “especially those that have been the underpinning of Western civilization for 2,000 years — without being slandered, accused of hate speech, and told from those who preach ‘tolerance’ that I need to either bend my beliefs to their moral standards or be silent when I’m in the public square.”
He concluded, “I believe we need to learn how to debate these things with greater love and respect,” and added, “I’ve been encouraged by the support of many friends (including gay friends, incidentally).”
I know, I got in a tizz over what he said there too. I said that Kirk was wrong, that he wasn’t being loving and respectful at all, and that if he couldn’t stand hearing differing opinions, he really shouldn’t make public statements like this. In my defense, I think I was on my period when I wrote that. And you know how us folk with uteruses can be: downright crazy and nonsensical!
But you guys. It turns out that this whole thing is still weighing heavy on Kirk’s mind. He still has a bunch of feelings inside about it, and we owe it to him to hear him out:
“I was surprised, frankly, that people were surprised by the things that I’ve said,” he explained. “I have been consistent for 15 years as a Christian. I’m a Bible-believing Christian. What I would have thought was more newsworthy is if I had said something that contradicted the word of God, if I had contradicted my faith.”
So, given his comments, does Cameron, who had also come on the show to discuss his new documentary “Monumental,” actually hate gay people?
“Absolutely not,” he said. “I love all people, I hate no one. … When you take a subject and reduce it to something like a four-second soundbite and a check mark on a ballot, I think that that’s inappropriate and insensitive. … To edit it down to that, it certainly didn’t reflect my full heart on the matter.”
See there? We were being “inappropriate and insensitive” to poor Kirk Cameron with all of this. I can’t believe us, you guys. We’re so mean.
he is a hypocrite. He was a solved blind gossip about the religious married guy who picked up men in griffith park over by the childrens train, took them to his car and did the deed.
Kirks problem stems from his thought that gods word is absolute over all man kind. Which it is not, and that is his problem. In his mind his actions
an comments are justified because they follow the word of his god. And he.can not for the life of himself understand why that is wrong.
A sad man follows the truth and never finds it.
A mad man follows the impossible and finds it.
Wait guys. He’s a Bible-believing Christian…which means, not only does he believe in shaky translations of what homosexuality is, he also believes in God-willed punishment by rape, a lifestyle including incest and slavery and that God has the right to change his mind and kill almost everyone or change the rules when he gets frustrated that his free-willed creation doesn’t do what he wants it to. I should start a PR firm for famous Christians. I’m an Atheist myself but man would I make a lot of money keep feet out of mouths.
Two words: closet case.
Would REALLY like someone to elaborate on the Griffith Park rumor. When did this occur? Who was involved? Gonna need some names on that. It’s too juicy to not ask.
