I don’t know where to start this one. Should I show you guys some of Sinead‘s famous tweets that describe her hospitalization, or should I just go right ahead and be all “girl, this does not look like depression”? Tough call.
I’ll just get you up to date real quick, I suppose. A little over a week ago, Sinead had a total meltdown on Twitter. She said repeatedly that she was in serious danger and that she needed to speak to a psychiatrist immediately. She was able to see someone a few hours later, and she said that she was going to be on meds for just a few weeks. It turns out, that breakdown was brought on because she and her husband decided to split one more time.
Sinead announced her latest split from her husband on January 13th, and on the 17th, here is what she had to say via, as always, Twitter:
Gonna be off radar for few weeks. But will be back. Worry not. : )
im going to hospital. Treatment for depression. Not at all well. But they will put me back together quick.
so will be back.. and smiling. Prolly 2 weeks ish..
I be grand in few weeks. was right decision to call hospital. They fab. Good team. I be me again in 2 weeks they say.
Dont want anyone worrying. Should only worry if a depressed person DOESNT go hospital. all will be well. Just little time. : )
And you guys, she was off Twitter for three whole days. That’s a big achievement for Sinead, who, as you know, has quite the problem with oversharing. But then, just a couple of hours ago, she was back. She responded to a fan’s tweet of “I AM A VIRGIN” (she was sympathetic, natch), and when other fans started asking why she was back already, here’s what she had to say:
But still v fragile. Great doc tho. Must b v gentle with self an keep head down for month or so. Let meds work etc
fantastic hospital an docs. Maybe all not lost in Ireland health system after all. Ah sher.. God is good.
Sinead, Sinead, Sinead, what are we ever going to do with you? There is a difference between being depressed and bipolar, and speaking from personal experience, girl, you are as bipolar as the day is long. I know, I know, you keep saying that you’re not: back in September, you even made the statement on your site that you’re not bipolar, and that “the diagnoses has three times been proven to be mistaken.” Does that seriously not tell you anything?
I’m not saying that you have to make a statement about this. I’m not saying that you have to explain every little thing to us. What I am saying is that being bipolar and being depressed are two different things that require two different treatments, and you really need to consider that it’s not going to get totally fixed in two weeks. I’m not trying to bring you down, I’m trying to help you in the long run. Ok?
Please feel free to leave any words that you have for Sinead in the comments, all right? If I tweet this post to her, I’m sure she’ll read it, so go wild.
Very insightful, intelligent commentary Emily. I agree, Sinead is probably bi-polar, not suffering standard clinical depression.
Sinead, you are a brilliant artist with a beautiful spirit – get better girl – do whatever you have to to be well, and then come back and knock our socks off again with your lovely music and poetry. ?
