People just seem to love to see a video game reimagined into a feature film. Mario Bros and The Last of Us proved people want them and Minecraft dominating the theaters means lets do that 100 more times!
Enter big budget/cig crash director Michael Bay. He’s cast Sydney Sweeny to star in Outrun based on the 80’s driving game for Sega.
The game pioneered a new genre of driving games and spawned an electronic music subgenre aptly called “OutRun.” The unique combo made it a worldwide hit. Since then, numerous installments have been released, including home console versions, and it continues to be one of Sega’s flagship franchises.
No plot, even a hint of one, has been revealed but as soon as it is I’ll be so curious to know. It’s such an odd thing to make into a feature film. We shall see.
