Whats more wholesome than a barbie doll based on a broadway show? That is, of course, unless the dolls packaging directs kids to a porn site.
The new Wicked dolls from Mattel are based on the characters of Witch of the West played by Cynthia Erivo and Glenda Witch of the East, played by Arianna Grande. And they’re getting major backlash after people followed the link on the package, WICKED.com, which turns out to be a porn website in operation for over a decade.
The REAL website was supposed to be Wickedmovie.com.
According to the Google Trends analytics tool this has driven hits to the site up to a 12 year high! That’s a lot of kids (and now just randos who’ve heard about the snafu)!
In a statement this week Mattel said: “Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel ‘Wicked’ collection dolls, primarily sold in the U.S., which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page. We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this.”
The toy manufacturer also said, “Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children. Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for further information.”
