In the 80’s you could ask almost any teen girl who Imelda Marcos was and they would tell you, “The lady with 3,000 pairs of designer shoes!”
It’s true. Imelda did amass a collection of shoes never seen before at the time. Also true is she was in fact the First Lady of the Philippines.
She and her husband Fernando were eventually forced into exile for more scandals than we can get into here… but the dye was cast. Emelda was a legend.
Fast Foward to 2023 and two incredible musicians are ready to put her name in lights on Broadway.
David Byrne and Fatboy Slim’s musical is coming to Broadway and is based on Emelda called Here Lies Love. An immersive disco-pop stage musical about Marcos adapted from a 2010 concept album by Byrne and Slim.
“The history of the Philippines is inseparable from the history of the United States, and as both evolve, we cannot think of a more appropriate time to stage this show,” producers say in a statement. “See you on the dance floor!”
