With works from artist Banksy selling for millions of dollars, you would think more care would be given to them by producers and directors. Unless, of course, Banksy’s in on it.
“The Outlaws” stars legendary actor Christopher Walken and airs on BBC and Amazon stream.
The show follows a group of criminals who were sentenced to clean up a community center as part of their community service.
In the finale, SPOILER ALERT, which aired this week, Christopher Walkens character Frank paints over a graffiti work that was done by Banksy. The show is set in Banksy’s home town of Bristol UK.
The show runners admitted that while the work WAS indeed a real Banksy piece, Banksy himself actually made the piece specifically for the show.
“We can confirm that the artwork at the end of The Outlaws was an original Banksy, and that Christopher Walken painted over that artwork during the filming of this scene, ultimately destroying it.” -Said a spokesman for the show.
