I was a huge Fresh Prince of Bel Air fan when it was around, but I always lamented the disappearance of Janet Hubert, who played Will’s aunt Viv in the first few seasons.
Back in the 90’s we didn’t have the internet to look into why she was suddenly replaced by a different woman, we only heard vague rumors.
Rumors that included a serious fall out and Will Smith demanding she be replaced.
Fast forward to the November 2020 reunion and the two appeared to have patched up their fight. Hugging on stage and showing their new love for one another.
Hubert told People.com “If there are tree roots in the drain, the water doesn’t flow,” she says, adding: “The drain has been snaked.”
These days, Hubert is booked and busy — and, most importantly, at peace.
“I don’t know if it’s a comeback,” she says. “I haven’t come from anywhere; I’ve been here. It’s just now … I always had to prove myself. I also had to walk in with a presupposition, and I don’t have to do that anymore, which is really lovely.”
Earlier this year, she made a guest appearance on FX’s Pose, in which she played Aunt Latrice to Billy Porter’s Pray Tell.
Congrats!
