So HBO has a new documentary coming out next week about the death of actress Britney Murphy back in 2009.
And while the circumstances around her death were peculiar, I don’t think the film actually investigates the death much other than to say how unfortunate it was.
An LA coroner determined her cause of death as ??multiple drug intoxication, pneumonia and “iron deficiency anemia.” Her husband, Simon Monjack, died months later, a coroner determined he also died of acute pneumonia and severe anemia.
The film appears to mostly just talk about the tumultuous life Britney led and the impact of her husband, who many say was an asshole and total con man.
“Brittany was so wonderful,” Kathy Najimy, who worked on King of the Hill with the late star, says in the trailer. Najimy later adds that Monjack “came along” when Murphy was having “a little dip” in her personal life.
“I think that’s where her judgment was muddled, and she became prey,” Najimy says, adding, “We all were scared and freaked out. Like, ‘Who was this guy?’ ”
Another interview subject says “every single word” from Monjack “was a lie,” including claims he was dying from terminal cancer, had dated Elle Macpherson and Madonna, and that he had the world’s largest Vermeer collection.
And while I agree there’s something totally sus about the relationship between those two, I don’t think anyone believes her death was more than just an overdoes encouraged by poor health.
Still should be interesting though.
