Deadliest Catch, the hardcore fishing show on the Discovery network, is mourning the loss of one of its own.
Mahlon Reyes, a 38 year old deckhand known on the show has passed away from an apparent heart attack.
Reyes, who began appearing on the reality series in 2012, suffered a heart attack last Saturday in his native Whitefish, Montana, wife Heather Sullivan told TMZ, who first reported the news. Reyes survived and was hospitalized, but never regained consciousness.
Sullivan said Reyes was taken off life support on Sunday. He died “shortly after midnight” on Monday, according to a post on Reyes’ memorial Facebook page.
Discovery told Page Six in a statement on Sunday: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”
Reyes has been cremated and some of his ashes will be spread in the Bering Sea by co-stars, Sullivan shared.
A cause of death has not yet been determined by the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, per TMZ. The family also noted that Reyes did not have any known pre-existing health conditions.
A Go Fund Me page has been organized for Sullivan and the four daughters she shared with Reyes. As of Sunday, over $13,000 has been raised.
