It honestly brings a lump to my throat to even repeat the terrible last moments of Naya Rivera’s life out on Lake Piru.
Police surmise from everything told to them by Naya’s four-year-old son, that the two were swimming in the lake on the afternoon of July 8th.
With currents in the lake known to get stronger in the afternoon, the boat began to drift. Naya was able to swim to the boat where she used her last ounce of energy to hoist him into the pontoon.
He (son Josey) said that he got on board and by the time he turned around he saw his mother disappear beneath the water.
A couple boating on the lake later found Josey asleep, wrapped in a towel, aboard the vessel.
Her last moments were spent saving her son’s life. That should always be a testament to her love for him. She has said in the past that her son is the greatest accomplishment and she spent her last moment on earth protecting him.
Her body was found floating in the northeast area of the lake where the water is between 35 and 60 feet deep Monday, after a six-day search. Ayub said investigators are “confident” the body found was Rivera, but the body is still being taken to Ventura County Coroner’s Office, where it will be identified through dental records.
