You know it, you love it, you’re terrified of it… Stephen King’s thriller masterpiece The Shining is considered among the scariest movies ever made. So when a key prop goes to auction, it gets attention.
The ax that Jack Nicholson’s character chases his family around with was sold at auction this week.
The iconic tool became involved in a bidding war at the Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, held at London’s British Film Institute on Tuesday, where it was expected to haul in between $49,000 to $73,000.
That price was smashed. It ended up going for $209,000!
The ax was among 900 lots to go up for sale in the annual auction, among them a range of replica guns from the Bond movies, one of the model sharks from Jaws, Vito Corleone’s pea coat from The Godfather: Part II and Russell Crowe’s armor from Gladiator.
