By now you’re all pretty familiar with the elusive artist “Banksy”. He’s the cheeky graffiti artist turned superstar who’s “Girl with balloon” painting sold for $1.37 at Sotheby’s last year, only to self destruct by shredding while the gavel was still warm.
So what’s that bugger up to now? Well, of course none of us know. The allure of Banksy is that he’s unknown to most of us. Although one person who knows the artists secret identity is Mojo. The cofounder of Turbozone Intl Circus.
Back in 2000 Banksy was at a millennium party when Mojo asked him to paint the companies touring van. After that it toured with the circus for a while.
It’s a far earlier piece of work than usually offered by the artist and that makes it extra special. Of course whoever buys it will have to have a place to store the monster vehicle.
According to Bonhams, where the item will be auctioned on September 14th; “The over-riding message is one of anarchy: ‘It’s us against them and we’re going to win’. The cumulative result is a resounding statement, both a direct call to arms against the establishment and the transformation of a mundane service vehicle into extraordinary work of art.”.
Ok, so cutting to the chase. Estimates? Anywhere from $1 – $2,000,000! Get out your pocketbooks!
