The estate handlers of JRR Tolkien want to be clear. They do not support, endorse or did the cooperate with the new biopic about the writers life, do out next month.
“The family and the Estate wish to make clear that they did not approve of, authorize or participate in the making of this film,” the estate said in a statement on Tuesday. “They do not endorse it or its content in any way.”
They do, however, say they aren’t commenting on the quality of the film. After all, they haven’t seen it. They just want to be clear that if it’s a piece of shit and full of lies, that didn’t come from them.
“The family and the estate are very private,” we’re told. “Their concern is that the fans think the family endorsed the film. They just wanted to set the record straight.”
The upcoming film stars Hoult as the “Lord of The Rings” author and Lily Collins as his wife Edith Bratt. The biopic, which comes out May 10, focuses on the years of his life that led to his invention of Middle Earth.
