Jennifer Esposito addressed critics Tuesday following reactions she had received to her Instagram comment, in which she replied to comedian David Spade‘s post featuring her ex-husband, Bradley Cooper, who performed a duet at Sunday’s Oscars with his “A Star Is Born” co-star, Lady Gaga.
Taking to Instagram, the 45-year-old actress posted a video to her feed, captioning the clip, “HA — Front page news!!”
“So many people have been commenting about something that I said, which was like this, ‘Ha!’ That was it. And the way it has spread, and it was towards David Spade’s very outward statement and something about an ex, and I literally laughed at him because he was so bold in what he was saying,” Esposito said. “I thought it was funny and I’m allowed to think something is funny.”
Spade had posted a screengrab of Cooper, 44, and Gaga, 32, performing “Shallow” on social media, captioning the image, “Is there any chance these 2 aren’t f–king,” to which Esposito replied, “Ha.”
“When you come and attack a person for saying, ‘Ha,’ we have so many things going on in our country and in our world that need attention, and I wished that you’d spend even a minute of this insanity of nonsense on things that are really important,” she continued.
Esposito, who split from Cooper in 2007, also stated that she didn’t tune in to Sunday’s Academy Awards.
“I didn’t watch the Oscars, I don’t know what went on, I don’t care what went on, I commented on something that I thought was funny, and someone being bold enough to say what he said,” Esposito explained.
Esposito previously referenced her Instagram comment Tuesday on Twitter.
“So confused. I get off a flight to see a comment I made of ‘HA’ to a joke from @DavidSpade has gone wild!?. Has everyone gone mad? Somehow I’m insulting an X by laughing at a joke someone else made? Pls take your insanity elsewhere,” she wrote.
