Lee Radziwill, the iconic New York socialite and younger sister of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis who died earlier this month at the age of 85, was laid to rest in New York on Monday surrounded by famous friends and family members.
Top names in fashion, including designers Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs and Tory Burch, as well as famed editor André Leon Talley, were among the mourners who gathered at the Church of St. Thomas More on the Upper East Side. Director Sofia Coppola, Radziwill’s daughter-in-law Carole Radzwill — a “Real Housewives of New York City” star who was married to Lee’s late son Anthony Radziwill — and niece Caroline Kennedy also attended the service.
A friend of Radziwill’s previously told Page Six that the proceedings were expected to be subdued: “It’s a funeral service, not a memorial. They won’t be doing anything else as she was so private and elegant.” Photographers captured large baskets of flowers being delivered to the church.
Her death “came as a shock,” as a friend previously described it to Page Six. “[Radziwill] was so strong and resilient for so long. We all just hoped she would be with us forever,” the friend said. “She had some health setbacks recently, including hip issues, that slowed her down slightly, but she was still as sharp as a tack.”
