This week, international Bachelor spin-off Bachelor: Vietnam made history when a female contestant professed her love to another contestant. During the drama-filled rose ceremony, Minh Thu explained to Bachelor Nguyen Quoc Trung that she came to the show to meet him, but in the process, someone else caught her eye. Thu then asked Truc Nhu, a contestant who had already received a rose from Trung, if she would go home with her, and Nhu actually took her up on it — until a few minutes later, when she changed her mind and returned to the Bachelor.
“I went into this process to find love,” Thu said after Trung declined to give her a rose. “But I’ve found that love for myself. But it isn’t you. It’s someone else.” Pushing away tears, Thu left her place in line and walked over to Nhu, who tried to console her friend. “Come home with me,” begged Thu as the other women looked on, shocked.
Nhu nodded her head and slowly approached Trung. “I’m sorry,” said Nhu. I really want to get to know you because you’re someone who made me feel special and I haven’t felt that in a long time.” But Trung wouldn’t let her leave so easily. “If you decide this, would you feel regretful? This doesn’t change my decision,” he said. “I’m not going to give this rose to anyone else. You only get one chance in this life, and you need to take it. Only you, not anyone else. I want to let you know that I think you’ll have regret if you continue with what you are about to say.”
Trung’s plea moved Nhu to tears, but it wasn’t enough. She returned the rose and hugged him, saying, “I know you’ll find someone who really loves you, who understands you, who knows how to take care of you, who can look at you from afar and know how you’re feeling. I’m sorry.”
