After years of denying there was ever any tension on set, Kim Cattrall has let the cat out of the bag, calling her Sex and the City co-star Sarah Jessica Parker “toxic”.
In a UK interview for Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, Cattrall lashed out at her famous co-star, saying, “I don’t know what her problem is, I never have.”
The very public issue seems to have sprung up over reports that Cattrall’s “diva” demands led to Sex and the City 3 being canned.
“The inference is from some unknown source, the inference is, is that I am a diva, that I’ve held up production in some way that, ‘Oh now we don’t get to make our movie because of you,’” said Cattrall.
“And now, now at this very moment it’s quite extraordinary to get any kind of negative press about something that I’ve been saying for almost a year of ‘no’ that I’m demanding or a diva,” she added.
“And this is really where I take to task the people from Sex and the City and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker in that I really think she could have been nicer.”
Parker confirmed news of the film’s demise in a US TV interview last week, saying:
“It’s over … we’re not doing it.”
Cattrall also disputed the notion that she was ever close to signing on to the film, saying she declined to appear in the film a year ago. “The answer was always no and a respectful, firm, no,” she told Morgan.
“‘I never asked for any money, I never asked for any projects, to be thought of as some kind of diva is absolutely ridiculous.”
