Glenn Close has been tapped as the featured performer in a film adaptation of Sunset Boulevard, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s famed musical, from Paramount Pictures.
The 70-year-old actress, sources told TheWrap, is at the center of negotiations with the studio to reprise the role she’s mastered in multiple stints on Broadway.
Close has played Norma Desmond in multiple incarnations of the hit musical, both in 1994 – an effort which earned her a Tony Award – and a recent revival run that wrapped up earlier this summer.
Aside from Close, Paramount has been on the hunt for a director – with a focus on signing TV ace Ryan Murphy – and a lead actor for the production, in hopes of kicking things off in January of 2018, the outlet reported.
Sunset Boulevard writer Christopher Hampton revealed that talks for a movie ‘down the line’ were in the works in January of 2016 while chatting with London’s Evening Standard.
Exciting!!
