Fans have fainted and hurled, and now “1984” star Tom Sturridge had to be taken out on a stretcher.
Spies at the Orwellian Broadway show co-starring Olivia Wilde told Page Six on Sunday, “Sturridge collapsed over the weekend onstage during a torture scene. It was wild. He was dehydrated and taken out on a stretcher.” Also, “Two ladies fainted in the audience.”
We’ve reported how visceral “1984” has regularly caused audience members to lose consciousness or their lunch.
A source added of the latest incident: “Tom seemed a little out of it as the end of the play neared — but he kept going. When the curtain was brought down, the cast didn’t come out for bows.” Instead, “there was an announcement asking if there was a doctor in the house.”
The source said a doctor and nurse in the crowd went backstage but, “EMTs were also seen entering the theater, where Sturridge was treated.”
After the incident, we hear Sturridge returned to the show for the final two performances of the weekend but, “his co-stars Olivia Wilde and Reed Birney, and other cast mates, made sure there was a lot of water backstage.”
