Marilyn Monroe bought this Brentwood home in 1969 for just under $80,000. She and long time maid Eunice lived at the only home the icon ever owned for just a few months when Monroe died of an overdose of sleeping pills. (Or so the FBI would have you believe)
Tucked beyond a cul-de-sac and behind a walled and gated entry the home gave Miss Monroe all the privacy she desired.
The four bedroom and three bathroom residence has a living room with vibrant, tile-accented fireplace, a den/dining room with ceiling-height bookcases and an adjoining office/sunroom. Renovated sometime before 2010, the eat-in kitchen has a massive ridgeline skylight, which is obviously not original to the house, and French doors to a courtyard garden.
Miss Monroe died in 1962 so maybe she bought in 59. That would make more sense of her purchase price as well.
So clever of her to buy a house while dead. :-)
