The top-selling piece at Art Basel Miami Beach is believed to be Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “Made in Japan,” which we’re told went for just under $15 million at Helly Nahmad Gallery.
Sources say the artwork was purchased by Greek-born billionaire asset manager and art collector Dimitri Mavrommatis.
Also spotted eyeing the work, along with numerous Picassos, and chatting to gallerist Helly Nahmad at the fair was Barbra Streisand.
Swiss-based collector Mavrommatis was one of Art Basel Miami’s biggest buyers — he also bought Andy Warhol’s “Diamond Dust Shoes” for $3.8 million at Dominique Levy Gallery.
