When you think of Hugh Grant, committed and monogamous partner are not the first things that come to mind, right? I mean, how many cheating scandals has the guy been caught in over the years? How many kids does he have by how many different women? With that in mind, it’s not exactly a surprise that Hugh thinks human beings aren’t actually meant to be faithful to one another. Wow, mind-blowing!
During an interview on Howard Stern’s Sirius XFM show on Wednesday, here’s what Hugh had to say about the sanctity of marriage:
“I can see the lovely aspect if you marry exactly the right person — your best friend and it’s cozy and it’s lovely. But, people make so many mistakes.”
“Do I think human beings are meant to be in 40-year-long monogamous, faithful relationships? No, no, no. Whoever said they were? Only the Bible or something. No one ever said that was a good idea.”
“I think there’s something unromantic about marriage. You’re closing yourself off. I always admire the French and the Italians who are very devoted to their marriages. They take them extremely seriously, but it is understood that there might be other visitors at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. You just never boast about [it]. They never say anything, but that’s what keeps marriages together.”
Basically, Hugh wants to be able to stick his dick in whoever he sees fit without having to be accountable to anyone… which is fine when you’re in our 20s and sowing your wild oats, I suppose, but seriously? Dude is in his 50s and still can’t give up his bachelor days.
Then again, I suppose it’s better that he’s honest about this rather than marrying someone and then screwing them over.
