When Caitlyn Jenner first revealed her transgender identity, I think a lot of people were full of hope. Here was someone with infinite resources and fame who had the opportunity to really make a difference in society. Instead, she’s been a massive disappointment and has actually done way more harm than good by being egotistical, close-minded, ignorant and unwilling to open her world view. Ah well, hey ho, can’t win ’em all. But it seems I’m not alone in being done with Caitlyn – E! has canceled her reality series I Am Cait after two seasons.
“There just weren’t enough viewers,” a production insider reportedly told Radar. “The show can’t compete with other programming.”
The Season Two premiere in March garnered less than 750,000 viewers.
Another complaint, says the source, is that “Caitlyn just wasn’t relatable. Trans viewers did not see her as one of them.”
Yikes. Not surprised, really. The series (which yes, I did watch, so I’m not talking out of my ass here) was try-hard, infuriating and incredibly uncomfortable. Candis Cayne, who for some reason befriended Caitlyn (hoping for the best, I suppose), was too good for that mess. Give HER her own show! Now that’s one I would watch. So long, Caitlyn. May we never have to put up with your internalized transphobia, classism, etc. ever again.
