With all the amazing original talent out there these days, it absolutely baffles me that we just keep remaking shit that’s already been done 100 times or creating sequel upon sequel to movies that were great the first time around but certainly don’t need another installment. But whatever, here we are and that’s how things are. Disney’s The Little Mermaid was a hit animation film for kids who grew up in the ’90s, but it’s about to be given the live-action treatment, with Chloe Grace Moretz in the lead role of Ariel. Hurrah?
Chloe announced the news on Twitter on Friday, and I’m not sure what to make of it. On one hand, the adaptation was written by Richard Curtis (the writer of Love Actually, among other films), so it could be cute, even if it is a pretty weird pairing. On the other hand, Sofia Coppola backed out of the directing spot earlier this year, so something must not be all that kosher about it (unless it was an infamous “scheduling conflict”, which is entirely possible). Either way, I’m vaguely intrigued but also still annoyed that we’re getting a Little Mermaid remake instead of developing some original projects. Ugh, Hollywood.
Been waiting a long time to tell you guys !! #TheLittleMermaid going to be a beautiful experience! Can't wait to show everyone my Mermaid!

What do you think? Will this be a winner or a total disaster?
Gawd, why does this need to exist?

oh wow thanks for sharing that! I watched a few minutes and it looks really interesting, I will be watching it later today :)
It’s either this crap or another Marvel comic book superhero movie from Disney.
I really loved the 80s series Fairy Tale Theater Hosted by Shelley Duvall. There were about 12-14 movies all starring big names. It would be really neat to see that and fairy tales I can’t really think of as remakes…
On the other hand if they want to come as close to the Disney version–it’s been said Ariel was inspired by Alyssa Milano who is nothing like Chloe
I’ll fap to that
