Earlier this summer, it was revealed that Katy Perry was in a bidding war with a bunch of nuns over a convent in LA’s Los Feliz neighborhood. Basically, she’s willing to shell out $14.5 million for the building, the sale of which was being negotiated by Archibishop Jose Gomez. However, two of Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary’s nuns claim that it’s not Gomez’s to sell and have vowed that Perry will get the convent over their dead bodies. The war is still ongoing – Perry clearly really wants this thing – but now the Sisters are playing the “it would be a sin” card… despite the fact that Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary used to house priests that had been accused of molestation. Yikes!
From Billboard:
“Katy Perry represents everything we don’t believe in. It would be a sin to sell to her. Even mentioning that she would sell her soul to Satan is against our principles and beliefs. In selling to Katy Perry, we feel we are being forced to violate our canonical vows to the Catholic Church.”
“It’s interesting she has all this girl power and she’s running over a woman and five nuns. We are going to Rome. We are not quitting now. We are just getting warmed up.”
Oh, come on. Do we not think the Pope has better things to do than get involved in a real estate dispute?
It’s still unclear who actually has the rights to sell the property, so in the meantime, no one’s buying it and therefore nobody’s making any money. Here’s the convent, if you wanted to see:
