Hayden Panettiere welcomed her first child with husband Wladimir Klitschko in December 2014. They have a lovely little girl named Kaya, but Hayden has struggled to adjust to motherhood and in a statement released this week, it’s been revealed that she’s decided to seek treatment for postpartum depression.
“Hayden Panettiere is voluntarily seeking professional help at a treatment center as she is currently battling postpartum depression. She asks that the media respect her privacy during this time,” a statement read to Us on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
This isn’t a complete surprise — Hayden has been pretty open about her struggles with postpartum depression in recent months, most recently during an interview on Live! With Kelly and Michael in September.
“I can very much relate. It’s something a lot of women experience. When [you’re told] about postpartum depression you think it’s ‘I feel negative feelings towards my child, I want to injure or hurt my child.’ I’ve never, ever had those feelings. Some women do. But you don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It’s something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know that they’re not alone, and that it does heal.”
Here’s hoping she’s able to find the help she needs and feel better. I agree that it’s a very real thing that a lot of women experience, and the more it’s talked about, the more awareness will be raised and women can get help.
That’s what the snuff how is for: to raise awarness for all sorts of societal ills– inequality, mental health, feminism, PPD, respect for all, etc. Etc. Doing the Lord’s work and fighting the good fight, every day.
that’s brave of her, I hope she feels better soon.
