Earlier this year, Caitlyn Jenner got into a fatal car accident on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu that led to one person losing her life. The victim’s family has already decided to file a wrongful death suit against Jenner (a suit which Jenner wanted thrown out from the get-go), but now it seems like things may be even more serious and she could be facing manslaughter charges if the DA decides to move forward with the case.
From Variety:
“The case will be submitted to the district attorney next week,” said Lt. Shaun Mathers of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Detectives have completed their six-month investigation and are set to present evidence to the prosecution that could lead to a misdemeanor manslaughter charge against the “I Am Cait” star. Because there’s “nothing really egregious” in the case, Det. Richard Curry of the Sheriff’s Dept. said there’s a “50/50” chance that she will be charged.
A misdemeanor manslaughter charge usually carries a one-year county jail sentence.
Jenner was driving down Pacific Coast Highway on Feb. 7 at an unsafe speed when her Escalade hit another vehicle, causing a chain-reaction crash, authorities said. Curry charged that Jenner’s violation of the vehicular manslaughter law ultimately led to a death.
Given that Jenner was entirely at fault for the crash, it’s only fair that she takes responsibility for that and is punished in some way. Do I think she needs to be thrown in jail for the rest of her life? Obviously not. But I do think there are consequences for every action and Jenner’s level of fame and fortune shouldn’t negate that, that’s for sure.
I mean, this was no small crash:
What do you think will happen?
ABOUT FREAKING TIME.
“Waaaaah, painting my nails is so hard. How do I make my voice more feminine? Does my butt look big in this swimsuit? I can’t believe other trans are taking my tax money that I earned for being an attention whore. LET’S PLAY PRETEND I DIDN’T KILL SOMEONE!”
I fear that like a lot of celebrities she will wind up with a slap on the wrist. There are a number of celebrities who have killed someone with their car/SUV. Matthew Broderick, Brandy, Keith Moon, Ted Kennedy. I am certain there are more, but this was just from a quick search. It is sad and disturbing that a certain of fame makes one immune to our justice system.
i want to hear her side they should have internet while prepunished in jail and a public jury trial… i want to comment like youtube. i drove on hwy 1 in malibu it has a lot of potholes worse than speedbumps and crazy bicyclists that drive on the road. i dont remember a bike lane or sidewalk. the city of malibu should fix that road.
