Remember earlier this year, when Emile Hirsch was arrested and charged with assault after he choked a female Paramount exec while drunk at the Sundance Film Festival. The case has been heard before a judge, and Hirsch is being punished… with a 15 day sentence in prison. FIFTEEN DAYS! He’s also have to pay a $4750 fine and do 50 hours of community service, but his victim, Daniele Bernfield, is none too happy with the ruling, especially considering that Hirsch choked her until she blacked out and she thought she was going to die.
From the New York Post:
Issuing a statement detailing her ordeal at Hirsch’s hands, which was read in the court before the “Into The Wild” star was sentenced, Bernfeld said, “I was subjected to a violent and unprovoked attack by a complete stranger. The defendant, Emile Hirsch, put me in a chokehold, pulled me off my feet and threw me on the floor. With the full force of his weight, he choked me until I blacked out. It took two people to pull him off me, and if not for their intervention, the attack would have continued. I thought I was going to die.”
She continued, “This act of violence has greater implications than the physical injuries I sustained. The long-lasting effects of this assault will remain with me. Mr. Hirsch’s plea, however, provides that in 90 days his case will be dismissed without record. There is no assurance that he will serve any of the 15 days of jail time associated with his plea.
“Quite simply, this punishment does not fit the crime. While the Park City Police Department treated me with courtesy and respect, this plea deal meets the bare minimum required to placate the regulations of our legal system. If a violent attack in front of a roomful of witnesses can be labeled a misdemeanor and dismissed, what of women who are assaulted while alone in hallways or bathrooms, or behind the closed doors of their own homes.
“While I appreciate that the court is trying to send a message to Mr. Hirsch, the message to him and those who may follow needs to be louder and stronger.”
Ugh, whatever. It’s very rare that violence against women is punished heavily, and it’s disgusting but not at all surprising. This is a disgrace and Hirsch is, too.
i agree ….hopefully he will be slimed everytime he shows his face like chris brown
The victim’s a Paramount exec so she probably sucked in many ways and he was attempting to do the world a favor. Whether male or female, FUCK HOLLYWOOD EXECS. Scum of the earth.
Stop recklessly partying and losing control.. easy easy.. Walk away and leave before you harm someone who’s bothering you, or you think it’s funny to choke them if they don’t please you when you are high, drunk and feeling invincible for a thrill.. If anyone suffered great damage from your attack you would really deeply regret that ..and lose your reputation and be banned from so many social situations needed in your work.. permanently unemployed. never considered worthy for a job you desire; just another hungry bum out there seeking fame,.. really not that hard to image if he doesn’t grow-up.
