If you’re anything like me, you probably haven’t given Keira Knightley much of a thought recently, but now that I’ve brought her back to your attention, you likely remember that she gave birth to her first child with husband James Righton about three months ago. We knew the baby was healthy and the couple was happy, but that’s about it… until now! It turns out, Keira’s child is a little girl, and we even know her name: Edie!
Keira posed for the cover of Elle’s September 2015 issue, which happens to be the mag’s 30th anniversary issue, and opened up about her experience with parenting in the accompanying interview.
“The love thing is astonishing. It’s a very primal, primal love. That’s quite extraordinary.
“And the ability to have no sleep and continue going. It’s not pleasant – I never thought that I could actually do it for the amount of time that I’ve done it.”
Keira also said that being pregnant and giving birth completely changed her perspective on her own body and she no longer stresses so much about what she looks like to the general public.
“Also, I have to say, as a woman, you hate certain parts of your body. You go through those periods where you look in the mirror and you think, Oh, if only I had different legs or arms or whatever,” Keira said.
“You go through pregnancy and labor and then feeding the kid and you go, Wow, my body is totally amazing, and I’m never going to not like it again, because it did this, and this is f–king extraordinary.”
So basically, the same shit all new moms say, particularly Hollywood ones who have personal trainers, a team of nannies, and millions of dollars to help them bounce back right away. No shade, but we’ve just gotta be honest about what’s really going on here.
I do think she looks great and I’m glad she’s happy and everything’s going well, of course. Good for her!
