You may not follow Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran news – either separately or together, if that’s even a thing – but the basic word on the street is that at one time, Ellie and Ed were dating, and then Ellie fucked Ed over by going off to sleep with Niall Horan from One Direction and Ed was furious and heartbroken so he wrote “Don’t” about her. Ed has actually confirmed his relationship with Ellie before in interviews, but Ellie is finally speaking up and she claims it never happened. DRAMA!
“I did go on a few dates with Niall [Horan] but I was never in a relationship with Ed [Sheeran],” the “Burn” songstress, 28, revealed in Elle UK. “I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing.”
“I find it so frustrating that female musicians are constantly defined by the men they have or haven’t dated. It’s something I’ve talked about with Taylor a lot,” she said, referring to “Blank Space” singer Taylor Swift, who is also pals with Sheeran. “She definitely feels that. She gets bothered by it. It’s like, you can be a great artist, you can write great songs, but the thing that everyone is going to talk about is some relationship they think you have had or not had. It’s definitely something we both think happens to female artists over male artists.”
Hmm. Now I’ve loved Ellie for years (as in, before she ever even got her record deal and was just updating demos to MySpace), and I’m a pretty staunch supporter of her in every way, but I’m not buying it. Ed Sheeran may not be the most physically attractive man in the universe, but he’s a kind and talented one and would have no trouble getting a girlfriend. Why would he bother to make an entire story up? And why about her?
After all, as he pointed out, you don’t hold hands with someone you’re just friends with:
Also, valiant effort on Ellie’s behalf in trying to turn the issue into a bigger one about sexism. It’s not just female musicians, girl – ANY woman in any field in the entire world is always pressed about relationships. It’s messed up, but it’s hardly defined her career, not nearly as much as it has other women in the biz (like Taylor, for instance). So I dunno, the whole thing is just weird. She shouldn’t have to talk about this at all, but then, why do it? Say it’s a topic that’s off the table rather than twisting the knife a bit by denying it altogether.
I don’t get the fuss about Ellie. She’s not attractive … at all, especially after treating someone that way.
I was gonna say, but thanks for doin’ it for me!
yes you can hold hands with people you are just friends with–its a sign that you like that person.
Look at that photograph. They’re not kids on a school field trip. They’re gettin’ it ON!
That chick is such a Jezebel
These 2 have PR people who try waaaay too hard. Still boring, both of ’em. Fame hungry. Zero sex appeal. MEH talent.
