If there’s one thing I love in this world, it’s affluent women who have always been affluent (and therefore pretty disconnected from the real world) starting their own lifestyle websites. We’ve got Gwyneth Paltrow‘s goop, bringing us 700 calorie per day diets & $400 hand towels; Blake Lively’s Preserve with its clueless racial undertones and overblown artisan aesthetic; and now we have Reese Witherspoon‘s Draper James, which is so southern it hurts… but hurts so good.
Draper James launched on Wednesday and at the moment it features a bunch of shit you don’t need for sale, from stationary inscribed with “southernisms” to the standard bags and jewelry. The one thing this site has going for is that many of the prices start MUCH lower than her competitor’s lifestyle sites, with bags and accessories as low as $25. What a bargain for shit you’ll end up donating to charity after it sits at the back of your closet for a few years!
The site also has some cute ideas on throwing luncheons and will feature more editorial content as time goes on. I have to admit, most of the merchandise is hideously tacky but that’s sort of what’s so endearing about it. This site actually feels authentic to Reese Witherspoon. I can absolutely see her carrying a bag that’s inscribed with “Totes, Y’all!” on the front. Can’t you? That puts her miles ahead of the competition already.
