Kanye West has been terrorizing audiences around the world for years, and following in his unrequited love/musical hero Beyonce‘s illustrious footsteps, he was actually invited to headline this year’s Glastonbury Festival over in the UK this summer. The problem is… no one really seems to want him there. So badly do they desire his absence that a guy called Neil Lonsdale put together a petition to dis-invite him from the festival… and it’s been surprisingly successful.
As the petition states:
Kanye West is an insult to music fans all over the world. We spend hundreds of pounds to attend glasto, and by doing so, expect a certain level of entertainment.
Kanye has been very outspoken on his views on music….he should listen to his own advice and pass his headline slot on to someone deserving!
Lets prevent this musical injustice now!
At the moment, the petition has over 71,000 signatures. Will it have any effect? Eh, probably not, but wouldn’t it be amazing if it did? Kanye would no doubt unleash the most narcissistic rant of his entire career – a tall order, but I know he’s got it in him.
Ha ha.. it’s the original insult vote that counts.. if he comes he arrives to a hostile crowd.
I find it appalling to be honest. You can like or not like his music or him, but to vote to have him written off the festival in favour of a rock band? It smells of snobbery, as if rap weren’t a legitimate music genre, and racism, since Kanye gets a lot more shit for his shit attitude than white musicians (like Pete Doherty). Don’t like it, don’t go see him. It’s not like there’s only one head-liner anyway — the Foo Fighters are also confirmed, and so is Lionel Richie. There is always meant to be at least one act you don’t like, suck it up. Nobody’s forcing you to go. I have been a festival-goer for years and the main reason I have decided to stop going is the amount of entitled manchildren like the dude who started the petition because they look down on half the acts and take pleasure in letting you know how lame you are for liking them. Waste of space and oxygen.
I agree, Kanye is a not everyone’s cup of tea (his music is definitely my cup), but these ridiculous campaigns smack of ignorance
Whatever, If he is in London for the festival at Glastonbury he will either have respect from the fans or he will not.
