In case you missed it, Sean Penn made a pretty tasteless joke while presenting at this year’s Oscars when he pondered aloud, “Who gave this son of a bitch a green card?” while handing over a trophy to Alejandro Iñárritu. I mean… haha? It was extremely inappropriate and also extremely NOT hilarious, and people have been very vocal about letting Sean know this. So he’s ready to apologise, right?
Uh, wrong. In fact, he’s not sorry at all and wants to send a big “Fuck you!” to anyone who doesn’t like it.
“I’m always surprised by flagrant stupidity. I keep having more hope,” said Penn of the widespread outrage that followed the moment.
“The fact is that I understand it. I see it all the time. When somebody sees the opportunity to frame something in the comfort that it will be common_that they can do that and they can get a group to look at them and that they will take on those positions and never really think about what it was,” he added.
“I have absolutely no apologies,” Penn said with calm resolve.
“In fact, I have a big (expletive) you for every…anybody who is so stupid not to have gotten the irony when you’ve got a country that is so xenophobic,” he said. “If they had their way, you wouldn’t have great filmmakers like Alejandro working in this country. Thank god we do.”
Yes, Sean, I’m so sure you were attempting to be ironic and deep and teach the xenophobic people of America a lesson. Right.
I mean, look, who knows – maybe he WAS trying to make an ill-conceived jokey point, but considering what a massive asshole Sean Penn is, I find that incredibly difficult to believe. Sorry, bro.
When humorless a-holes make jokes nobody knows it except them. But he is right about one thing he totally has no f*cks to give about anything.
I agree with him completely about people jumping on the outrage bandwagon without even taking a second to think, just to get their own voices heard. He was being ironic, that was very clear, and I thought it was funny. Sean Penn may be an ass, but a racist he is not.
I thought these two guys were friends, and Alejandro made a comment that he thought the dig was funny. Can’t remember where, but I am sure I read that.
I read that too. Tempest in a smoke-smelly teapot
