Mariah Carey and Jermaine Dupri have a long history and have worked together already on two songs – the classic ‘Always Be My Baby’ and ‘We Belong Together’ (which I love) – but I’ve got a serious blast from the past for you: she’s now hired him to be her manager. I seriously feel like I’ve just entered a time machine back to the mid-’90s for this one, but hey, she must know what she’s doing.
Here’s Mariah’s statement:
“We have a bond that surpasses music. I am super excited about our merger because we have so many innovative ideas that I know will come to fruition.”
And here’s Jeremaine’s:
“A multi-talented artist of Mariah’s caliber should be doing everything imaginable. I’m sure others have said this but not the way I intend to do it. For me, it’s about the execution.”
Well, aren’t we excited? I don’t think I realised until I read it in the LA Times that Mariah was being managed by Randy Jackson before this. I haven’t followed Mariah’s career closely like that since the Tommy Mottola days, so that’s that. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of material these two come up with together.
