I wouldn’t think a grown man would want people to know that he built a Batcave at his house, but director Kevin Smith didn’t care about that and put Ben Affleck on blast, revealing that he’s done just that. Kevin bought Ben’s old house a few years back, whereupon he discovered just how into Batman the new Batman is.
From Smith’s Hollywood Babble-On podcast:
“His house that I would end up buying, when I first saw it he was touring me through the place and said, ‘Come here, I gotta show you my room’.
“He brings me into the room and goes, ‘Look at this’. There’s an office room and this beautiful bookcase – he reached under and he clicked something and all of a sudden the bookcase opened.
“I was like, ‘No! You built a fucking Batcave?’ And he was like, ‘No I built a Batcave entrance!’ When you went in behind the bookcase it was a panic room.”
Awesome! I totally want a big house one day JUST to build a massive room that’s behind a bookcase. Kevin also thinks Ben will make a great Batman, no matter what the haters have to say about it.
“This dude has loved Batman going as far back as I can remember. He only did Daredevil because he loved Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns.”He’s like, ‘They’re never going to make another Batman‘, because this was after Batman had nipples. So he was like, ‘Daredevil‘s cool, and Miller wrote him as well’. So he liked the character, but it was always rooted in Batman.
“He’s always been into the notion. He’ll honor the character. I honestly think the dude’s a great actor, it makes absolute sense.”
I’m not really into Batman, so I’m not the right person to ask about it, honestly. Ben Affleck’s a pretty cool guy, though, so I’m not totally against it.
Now we know where Kevin Smith’s panic room is.
