“I’m not going to answer that question. I’m not mad at you for asking that question, but I’ve said it before: I don’t think people ask men those questions.”

Zooey should probably take a class on famous people now that she has her own show. George Clooney, Sam Rockwell, and Brad Pitt (years ago) have been asked that question. It would be easy to find more. It comes up in a lot of interviews if a person is over thirty.
I believe she is taking issue with the fact that it really is a question that most women are asked. IDK, I’ve learned over the years that to have or not to have children is a very private choice. It’s not my business – but they can share that information if they want to.
I’ve never seen someone asking a single guy that question. Maybe if the dude’s in a relationship…
I think is kind of rude to ask a stranger (famous or not) if they want to have kids. I travel a lot and i usually take a cab from the airport… man, 9 out of ten taxi drivers usually go “how old are you? (mid 20s) hmmmm… and do you have kids? (no). Really? then when are you planning to?”… lately i’ve taken to make them feel uncomfortable for asking such a personal question and say “No, I can’t have kids. THANK YOU (crying).”, or “Actually, biologically I’m male… but I was thinking of adopting but (long rant about heteronormativity and not being able to adopt as an allegedly male to female single person)”.
I asked one of my male coworkers who has taken several cabs from the airport almost daily for the past 2 weeks, he’s just a year older than i am. No one’s ever asked him something like that.
