Warning: this story is really, really gross and it will make you feel exceedingly sad for Britney Spears. It was also probably make you hate Jason Trawick, as well as Britney’s dad. You know, if you didn’t already.
From Radar:
Britney Spears’ professional life and finances aren’t the only things that are controlled by her conservators.
In fact, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned that the Toxic singer, 31, had very little to do with the decision process regarding her split last week from Jason Trawick, which ultimately was left to and orchestrated by her father, Jamie, and her former fiancé.
“It really wasn’t Britney’s decision to announce the split last week, it was Jamie who made the call,” a source tells RadarOnline.com exclusively.
“Jason wanted out, and in the fragile state that Britney is in, it’s not like he could have a rational conversation with her about it, so it was really between him and Jamie. They decided how the relationship needed to end and how to go about the technicalities, such as removing Jason from the conservatorship, when he would move out and how to announce the split. Britney was left out of everything and really didn’t even know what was going on.”
When it was finally time to break the news to Britney, the source says the two men did it in a controlled and safe environment and were very careful explaining the situation to her, because they were afraid she wouldn’t take it well.
“Jason and Jamie wanted to make sure that Britney didn’t lose it, so they had to water things down for her a bit,” the source says. “She knows that the engagement is off and that Jason has been removed from the conservatorship, but she still hasn’t exactly grasped yet that the relationship is totally over.”
I hate this so much. I hate how Britney is treated by those who are supposed to love her the most. I especially hate how she’s supposed to be treated like a poor, fragile, broken woman, except when she can make some money. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: either Britney is too ill to be engaged and work on live television shows, or her conservators are taking advantage of her. Either way, Jason Trawick and Papa Spears are weird and gross and I hate them.
But for real, just think about it: this guy was prepared to marry this girl, but he didn’t think she could mentally handle a breakup. Is that not the skeeviest thing you’ve ever heard?
Clearly, Britney has mental health issues that most adult women do not have. But there is something so profoundly creepy about how she has been utterly stripped of so many basic rights, in a way that usually only happens if you are convicted of a crime and incarcerated. I’ve known people with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and know of scores more, who’ve had breakdowns that rival Britney’s, and yet in fairly short order (months, not years) are entirely autonomous, making their own decisions about their careers and love lives and finances and parenting and so on. It shouldn’t be this easy to make anybody a hostage of other people, and I do not understand how it happened to someone with so many resources.
So, Britney was mentally capable of agreeing to get married (according to her dadager and the hired help, her agent/fiancee), but needed to be handled with kid gloves when the agent/fiancee decided he didn’t want to get married after all?
How can the judge overseeing this conservatorship NOT see that her dad is NOT an impartial and competent guardian? I would be asking why this judge isn’t having to explain why he thinks the dad should be continuing to run her life. Maybe she needs to have a new judge appointed to oversee her conservator?
Reminds me of Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo”. Awful.
I wonder a few things. They say she suffers from bipolar disorder and the thing about bipolar disorder is that even while treated it does get worse with age. I can see the balance between wanting to create an environment where she still gets to do what she knows and loves and gets to enjoy the benefits and lifestyle that it affords, while at the same time she is protected by an immediate family member who is kept in check by not only the courts but the public. So I wonder if she really is only in her “The Britney that we have gotten to know and love” element when she is touring or doing something creative and very overwhelmed when she isn’t OR if these stories are being blown out of proportion OR if there is some reason she is keeping quiet if indeed some injustice is occurring. Have they broken her down mentally? Is she that drugged? Or does she know her limits and feel safe? Would feel different to us if her mom was the conservator? Do we have knee-jerk-1950’s-female-control flashbacks when men are legal guardians of women?
“Would feel different to us if her mom was the conservator?”
Good question. But I don’t think so. For one thing, Dina Lohan; for another, I don’t think either of Britney’s parents are exploitative famewhores.
It’s just that whether or not she’s the Britney we think we know, the bar to lose that much control over your whole life, for years at a stretch, should be extraordinarily high. The great majority of people with bipolar mood disorder, or schizophrenia, can get out of crisis reasonably quickly with the right medical care and support, and then make their own decisions once they’re stabilized.
This whole thing really disturbs me, on a level that celebrity bullshit usually can’t touch. If someone that wealthy and privileged can fairly easily be legally stripped of all her autonomy, how much worse would it be for the poor, minorities, people out of the public eye, and so on?
It is VERY difficult being responsible for an adult’s life because they are unable to manage it themselves. You have NO idea how much weight rests on her father’s shoulders and what an enormous pain in the ass this is causing him.
There is no choice but to ‘look’ after her because the alternative would be to employ a guardian and then it falls into public domain…..protecting her requires controlling her???
Yes, the real victim in all this is HER FATHER.
Jesus.
How can anyone understand without experiencing it for themselves?
I hope none of you have to!
