OH MY GOD.
From TMZ:
Donna Summer — the Queen of Disco — died this morning after a battle with cancer … TMZ has learned.
We’re told Summer was in Florida at the time of her death. She was 63 years old.
Sources close to Summer tell us … the singer was trying to keep the extent of her illness under wraps. We spoke to someone who was with Summer a couple of weeks ago … who says she didn’t seem too bad.
In fact, we’re told she was focused on trying to finish up an album she had been working on.
This is literally a piece of my childhood dying. No, I didn’t grow up in the seventies—but her music was always a favorite when I was younger, and still is to this day. It’s like my childhood is being killed off piece by piece. Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Donna Summer … if this is what getting old is all about, I can tell you right now—it sucks ass. I’ve talked about Donna before on the site, and this news seriously bums me out.
Rest in peace, Donna.
Oh, this breaks my heart. I’ve long felt that she was underappreciated and that her amazingness was largely unrecognized, and figured it was a just a matter of time until the rest of the world caught on. I wish that could have happened during her lifetime. She was luminary.
