“Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs. They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there. They were basically kissing my ass. ‘I thought they were my friends. I thought I was having fun. Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says ‘no’. That’s why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me. … What I can say is that I was depressed. I would come off stage in front of 18,000 people and suddenly be alone in a hotel room. I’d come crashing down and would try to find a way to recreate that feeling, to stay ‘up’.”
So what Demi is saying, more or less, is that she hates the best part of being a celebrity.
No, I’m totally joking, that’s completely inappropriate. Demi‘s a role model out there for lots of young men and women going through a lot of shit, and it’s unfortunate that there are club promoters out there who are so underhanded that they’d give an unstable young woman drugs blah blah blah it’s definitely all true.
All I know is that back in my day when I was singing in a cover band, that the best free thing anyone ever offered me was carte blanche on the alcohol and maybe a few free hotel rooms. No one ever offered me drugs, jeez.
Sarah, you are so excellent.
Ah, but it takes one to know one. :)
uhhhh now you have to post a video of your cover band. WE KNOW THEY EXIST DON’T LIE AND SAY THEY DON’T.
No videos (no, seriously, this was back in ’03-’06 before YouTube was A Thing), but I do have a few old photos!
