So this year’s Young Hollywood cover has emerged, and the photography was done (for the first time in its history, mind you) by photographer Mario Testino. The hottest actresses were chosen to front the cover, and women like Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Elizabeth Olsen, Adepero Oduye, Shailene Woodley, Paula Patton, Felicity Jones, Lily Collins, and Brit Marling were chosen to showcase this year’s budding talent. The funny thing is, Vanity Fair normally gets this business right. It’s like they predict who’s going to be the hotness, year in and year out with an almost uncanny accuracy.
For example! Wanna know who was on 2011’s list, if you don’t already? Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, James Franco, Jennifer Lawrence, Anthony Mackie, Olivia Wilde, Jesse Eisenberg, Mila Kunis, Robert Duvall, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Andrew Garfield, Rashida Jones, Garrett Hedlund and Noomi Rapace. And they all did pretty well over the 2010-2011 calendar year.
Those chosen to cover the magazine the prior year? Abbie Cornish, Kristen Stewart, Carey Mulligan, Amanda Seyfried, Rebecca Hall, Mia Wasikowska, Anna Kendrick, Emma Stone, and Evan Rachel Wood. And I remember Evan Rachel Wood being chosen for that issue, thinking, “Seriously, what the hell can Evan Rachel Wood do to detract from her Marilyn Manson-affiliation?” But guys, she pulled out all the stops and became way more popular than she ever was before. VANITY FAIR, my dudes.
So, in short, I suppose if you make it in Vanity Fair’s annual ‘Young Hollywood’ issue, you’re pretty much guaranteed a good year-to-eighteen months in the entertainment business. It’s like they can f-cking predict who’s going to be hot (for the most part) and who’s going to be … well, everyone else. Naturally, there were a few flukes on the list over the past few years that just didn’t ‘pop’ like the rest of them (like Abbie Cornish and, ahem, Anna Kendrick), but the others rose so fast it was hard to tell whether or not they’d burn out by the sheer velocity of their career paths. Who, on this list, is going to be as hot as VF pegs them to be this year, and who do you think is going to pretty much peter out?
Check out the video below for some very pretty live-action-ness, and then be sure to click on through to the gallery for full-sized images of the Vanity Fair covers.
Yay, more skinny white girls.
Whats ur problem in fact? Better them than black whales.
Really? I disagree.
Yay, Jennifer Lawrence! She is starring on the Hunger Games and I am so excited about it I could puke. Also, there is not one single non-white face on the picture. Wrong, VF and Hollywood, wrong.
Well there are two, but not on the intended front cover. Adepero Oduye and Paula Patton. Pique’s article brings this to light as a continuing Vanity Fair theme.
Mireee, read this, I found it quite entertaining: http://jezebel.com/5880848/vanity-fairs-hollywood-issue-pushes-actresses-of-color-aside-again
