Come on, of course you remember Casey Abrams! He was the weird kid with the bass and all of the talent on that last season of American Idol. Well, no, ok, Haley Reinhart had a good bit of talent too, but, if you’ll remember, I loved Casey Abrams. I loved him with the passion of a thousand fiery suns, and I loved him with a love bordering on obsession. When he was so wrongfully voted off of the show, I wrote up a story about it and titled it “So I Guess American Idol Took Away My One Reason to Live.” What can I say, I was in a dark place at the time.
But now it’s nearly, what, eight months later? And I’ve learned some things about life and love. I’ve learned that it’s true that time heals all wounds, and, to quote Bon Jovi, “just like everything, even good love has to die.” As Casey has faded away from the public eye, so, tragically, has he faded away from my heart. I haven’t thought of Casey in ages because I thought it was over. What we had was wonderful and moving, but so very brief. Or so I thought.
Because you guys, Casey got a record deal!
Oh my God, finally, right? What took someone so long to get this kid an album? Scotty and Lauren have both released albums, that bore Pia got a deal in, like, July, and even Stefano got a deal back in September. Do you remember Stefano? Yeah, no one else does either. Haley and James Durbin got deals as well. SO WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG, WORLD?
But truthfully, it doesn’t matter anymore, because, as you heard Casey so adorably sing in the video above, he finally got signed. He’s now with Concord Records, which is a jazz label that artists like Kenny G. and Carole King also call home. So that’s pretty awesome, right?
Are any of you going to be cool enough to get Casey’s first album when it comes out? Are you looking forward to this as much as I am? Can you just not wait to hear every little tiny piece of Casey Abrams news when it comes out? Because I’ll be on the lookout, friends. You best believe I will be on the lookout.
This dude’s problem is that he couldn’t sing.
