Yesterday, Sarah brought you that quote from Christina about how she loves her body and her boyfriend loves her body, and how she’s happy with the way she looks. I completely share Sarah’s sentiment that it’s wonderful that Christina feels this way, but please, please consider your fashion choices. Like, I just don’t understand why she refuses to wear pants. I don’t get it, and I never will.
But this isn’t about her awful, horrible fashion choices. No, this is about her awful, horrible makeup choices*. Because, you guys, look up there at that cover photo for Christina’s issue of Marie Claire. Look how good she looks! And I know, I know, Photoshop does wonders, but you can’t look at that photo and tell me that the lack of pancake foundation and that constant, offensive red lipstick doesn’t do wonders for her.
Oh, and seeing as how we’re already talking about Marie Claire, why don’t I go ahead and share with you guys a few excerpts from Christina’s interview?
On the entirety of 2011: “That was a rough year,” Aguilera admits, shaking her head. “Between my divorce and the other things I went through, a lot happened. It’s hard for anyone to go through that in public. But when you’re a celebrity and under a microscope, it’s 58 million times harder. I grew an even thicker skin after that hard year.”
On the criticism she’s received for her weight: “I’ve been through my highs, I’ve been through my lows; I’ve been through the gamut of all things in this business. Being too thin. Being bigger. I’ve been criticized for being on both sides of the scale. It’s noise I block out automatically. I love my body. My boyfriend loooves my body. My son is healthy and happy, so that’s all that matters to me.”
More on her body image: “I have certain physical features that I favor over others. We all have our areas,” she says. “When I worked on Burlesque, I lost so much weight that I was too skinny. I don’t weigh myself — it’s all about how I feel in my clothes. What looks good on one person might not look good on another body type. I happen to be very confident in my own skin. It takes time to get to that place, but it’s all about embracing yourself and your body.”
On her public image: “It is called show business.”
Oh, honey, is that why you wear all that ridiculous makeup and fishnets for pants? Because it’s “show business,” is that it? Sweetheart, it’s not worth it. Famous people wear all their clothes too, I promise. It’s ok, you don’t have to keep doing this to yourself.
Despite that troubling little bit there at the end – show business, honestly, my goodness – what do you think Christina’s future looks like? Will 2012 be her year?
*By the way, thank you guys so much for all those makeup tips yesterday! I’ll definitely be trying some of those products, and I will do my very best not to pull a Christina.
