Elizabeth Taylor, who has been in the hospital since early February for congestive heart failure, passed away this morning. Though recently her condition had improved enough that doctors thought she may be able to go home soon, she took a turn for the worse, and her publicist reported that she “peacefully died” at the hospital, surrounded by her children.
Here’s the statement from Elizabeth’s son:
“My mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love,” he said. “Though her loss is devastating to those of us who held her so close and so dear, we will always be inspired by her enduring contribution to our world. Her remarkable body of work in film, her ongoing success as a businesswoman, and her brave and relentless advocacy in the fight against HIV/AIDS, all make us all incredibly proud of what she accomplished. We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place for Mom having lived in it. Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts.”
Elizabeth’s family requested that instead of flowers, any contributions should be made to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
This is so sad. The world definitely lost one of its classiest ladies today.
Sorry to hear she died….. Would it be in poor taste to mention she was in my dead pool this year?
I don’t know if I would go with the word “classiest.” Eight marriages, relationships with married men – go with “memorable” instead.
