Things to notice about this video:
1 – Holy crow, if Mariah bends over the wrong way, (or uh at all) we’re going to have a surprise visit from Baby Carey-Cannon.
2 – This is the Most Festive and Prettiest and Glitteriest stage setup ever. I am enamored.
3 – I’m wowed by the fact that Mariah can still hit those way high notes. Good on you for having some serious pipes, girl.
4 – The guy playing the piano? Way too into it.
5 – Patricia Carey – or the woman singing mega opera next to Mariah – has some serious tooth veneers. But just on top.
And the thing that stood out the most to me:
6 – The way Mariah kept trying to plug her fingers into her ears as if trying to ‘hear’ her voice and the music better. That’s why you’re wearing in-ear monitors, girl – that’s what they’re for.
Yeah, the ear plugging and the hand motions in general made me laugh, but that woman can SING!!! I hate that breathy stuff she does in the beginning (I always have hated it when she does that), but the last minute or so when she really turns it on and her mom’s singing too is fantastic!
Don’t mean any disrespect but usually when artists do that it’s because their ear plug is either falling out, not loud enough, or malfunctioning in some way. Either that or it’s force of diva habit. But holy pipes girl!
She is undeniably talented. I LOVE her when she just lets it rip but I cannot handle the breathy stuff and the squealy notes.
Well it’s about time that she introduced her fans to her mother! Those pipes came from someplace, and it was very touching to see them sing ‘together.’ they should do more…it’s very sweet. And I’ll agree w/others about the breathy singing – it’s a distraction from her amazing voice.
the sound guy obviously sucked or something had gone wrong, that she had to do the ear-thing. you can’t imagine how hard it is to hear yourself on a big stage with so much equipment when the monitor isn’t right. so, that definitely was not a gesture to be more theatrical, believe me.
dear Sarah,
If you have never been on stage to sing, don’t make ignorant comments. As long as I have seen Mariah, she does the ear plugging (but usually on the whistle notes). She probably has a good reason for it. So shut up please. Geeze
you mustnt have been reading here long priss. sarah has mentioned on more than one occasion i think, that she used to be the lead singer in a band. she might actually have some insite on this one.
yeah, and she still knows more about what Mariah is doing than Mariah herself LOL
So Sarah was a singer in a band? Mmm hmm… like what? Never heard that mentioned before but I’ve been staying away due to the pop up whore doggin’ ads on this site. I’d love to hear a clip of that. You sure she didn’t just throw down on a little karaoke? lmao.
I do throw down on some karaoke, ’cause I love it, but yeah, the rumor is right – I used to sing for a cover band. Nothing big by any means at all, but it was something fun, something that I enjoyed, and above all, something I was actually paid for by actual clubs in the area on a regular basis.
Well, that’s cool. What kind of bands did you cover? Just wondering what your style is… I like to sing also but I do it loudly and badly ;)
Oh, man, we used to do everything … No Doubt, Tool, Pearl Jam, eighties hair band stuff, Weezer – the whole spectrum in between. :)
Very cool, Sarah.
Thanks! :) Was a lot of fun.
Mariah can definitely hit the high notes and blow the doors off, but what I noticed throughout her performance was that she doesn’t seem to have any lower range at all. I found it painful to listen to when she was in the lower ranges…she was off-key and couldn’t hold the notes. The hand gestures are distracting, but they are Mariah. The breathy stuff and the constant trilling drives me nuts…I had to change the channel.
Actually, now that I’ve watched this thing twice – the thing that bothers me more than breathy singing or hand gestures is how she barely relates to her mom. Her mother is standing there — watching her daughter the entire time, and Mariah barely glances in her direction except when she has to introduce her and then at the end she gives a very formal hug. Hmm…
