“Harry Potter is not Twilight, you know; we’re not selling sex.”
– Emma Watson giving another reason why Harry Potter is different from Twilight. I think that brings the count of differences up to two: Harry Potter doesn’t sell sex, and Twilight doesn’t have any literary value. Oh wait, the vampires in Harry Potter don’t sparkle in the sunlight.
Feel free to add your own list of differences in the comments.
Twilight = pornography for women
Harry Potter = A Good Read
Emma Watson has a point, about the movies, they use the sex appeal of the main actors to skimp on special effects and make a larger profit on merchandising . . . but the books are not pornography for women. There are love stories in Harry Potter, it’s just more obvious J.K Rowling knows more storytelling about literature than Stephenie Meyer. You can see Rowling gets inspiration from some classics, while Meyer just seems to find herself way too interesting. Anyway twilight is severely tame, I think that is where it fails.
I dared myself to read two romantic novels this summer and I also downloaded “the short second life of bree tanner”…I have to say I found no difference really in the style of the two romantic novel writer’s (lack of) style and Stephanie Meyer’s. I was shocked that she had any kind of degree in literature.
JK has a very polished style, her details are nice and necesary, she explains the stuff. The glassy breaky vampire thingy, I still don’t get it. The only adjective I can remember comming accross in Stepanie’s book is “sweet” and maybe “pure/clean”, blood is sweet when it’s clean, vampires burning smell sweet.
Stephanie writes as a romance novelist does, it seems like they just sit and say “I’ll write 200 pages for a novel” and that’s it. It is dissapointing to see how empty those books are, I felt like I was reading just another romance novel. She’s no good writer.
I agree with Emma as well. I hate how the two get clumped together. Harry Potter is way more thoughtful and insightful than Twilight. Twilight is very simple minded compared to Potter.
This has long been battled both by Twihards and Harry Potters camps on previous pages and issues. No need to argue about it ’cause both has its own points. The magazine just want to make both camps rumble and fight adding to the statement of Emma watson. Emma is really at fault to say that Twilight is selling sex comparing the film to a Porno which isn’t because it has its own reasons. We are just fooled to give a feedback and fight without a cause. The war has already been finished a long time ago. This is a new setting now with a made-up statement of Emma.
