Chaz Bono (formerly Chastity Bono), the daughter of Sonny and Cher, began the sex change process back in March and now he’s finally starting to see the kind of results he was hoping for. Not only is Chaz growing facial hair, but it’s thick enough that he finds himself needing to shave weekly in order to keep a soft face. “I shave about once a week now. It kind of started to come in just like peach fuzz. I always wanted to shave. It is a very natural process. For my birthday I got a lot of shaving stuff.” Oh, yay!
Chaz also has taken more drastic steps that just the hormones. Chaz also had his breasts removed not that long ago. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Chaz said, “The most important thing about this for me is that my outsides are finally starting to match my insides. I feel like I’m living in my body for the first time, and it feels really good.”
This is so sad. How painful it must be to have your breasts removed. The self-loathing involved to put yourself through something like this must be huge. I feel sorry for her/him/whatever.
I think it is great that Chaz is brave enough to go through a sexchange. OFFCOURSE it is exciting to finally be able to shave and see what you have allways felt on the inside now show on the outside as well. Everyone who think this is “sad, bad, wrong, whatever” can go f**k themselves.

It doesn’t sound like he has self-esteem issues at all. He hated the fact that he had the physical characteristics of a girl when he was really a boy. That was his issue.

But she has all the female parts. This is not a case of inside out. She has ovaries, a uterus and all the parts.
A good surgeon would have insisted she lose 75+ pounds before going under anesthesia for an elective surgery! But in the world of song and movies the same rules dont seem to apply (Like Kanye’s mom!)

I dont applaud this because it wont solve her issues, trust me she will be equally miserable after the attention and process wears thin.

Well, exactly what really makes you a boy? Is it the penis, is it the facial hair growth, is it the attraction to a woman, is it aggression, just what makes a person male? Each of us in this hu”man” race have both male and female characteristics. Our job is to integrate the male and the female. But to go through all of this physical change (for what reason, I really don’t know) is absurd. Why not just be the person you came into this world to be without trying to tell nature what you think you should be. It’s strange that no other species on Earth has gender issues. I still don’t get what the big deal is. Why does “Chaz” have to change her physicality just to have a girlfriend? Can’t she achieve whatever she needs to achieve with her partner without going through a radical sex change, or is that against her morals?

It’s not a case of self-loathing in the traditional sense. He felt that he was born a man in a woman’s body. Getting his breasts removed was just a step in the process of making his body match the gender he identifies as.
I wonder how her lesbian lover is dealing with the emerging male Chaz? Sonny and Cher were terribly-selfish, creepy and distant parents if she waited this long to do something and speak out, knowing they worked in the entertainment industry and were more liberal minded and aware than most of the world..

Gender Dysphoria or Gender Identity Disorder. There are people who do exist that feel as if they were born in the wrong body.

gotta say, a lot of these responses are seriously disappointing. have you ever met someone who has undergone this change? from what i understand, many find the process extremely liberating because they feel that they’ve lived their life as someone they’re not. and, shocker – they’re still people regardless of their gender.
bravo to chaz for having the strength to go through this and providing a positive model for others going through a similar transition.

Yes, this is a real medical condition, and yes I DO know someone who has gone through this process. No one would go through the surgeries and HUGE expense involved with this unless they felt their emotional survival depended upon it. The woman I know who lived through this was suicidal before she made the changes, and she lost her narrow-minded and judgemental family because of the changes she made. She is now living life in the body she always knew she should have had. Is it not time to grow some compassion for our fellow human beings?

I have posted on here numerous times regarding this topic.
My spouse identifies as a male, but was born a female. Up until the age of four going on five, he thought he was a male. He would pee standing up, play the male role when “playing house”, and run around without a shirt. He was devastated when his mother insisted he start dressing like a girl and acting like one because he was going to be starting school.
How traumatic that must be for a 4 year old to realize that they are not who they thought they were their whole life up to this point.
When he hit puberty and started to grow breasts he became depressed. The summer he started his period he locked himself in his room and only came out to eat and shower. His mother used to always complain that he walked and sat like a boy. She made him wear dresses for special occasions. On the day of his high school graduation, not only was he made to wear a dress, but he was also made to wear make-up. Looking at his pictures, you can see the sadness in his face. This was a time that he should have been celebrating.
It is hard to understand how individuals that are transgendered feel and think. Just like not everyone can understand what you feel and think. This is because we have not walked in your shoes just like you have not walked in theirs.
Imagine waking up tomorrow, looking in the mirror and realizing that the image you are looking at is not the identity you knew yourself to be. Now, imagine trying to live like the individual you are seeing in the mirror the rest of your life. You know that is not who you really are, but society sees you as that and we know how society judges people that don’t fit their idea of what is “normal”.
I don’t know about you, but I would be absolutely miserable.
I applaud Chaz for feeling comfortable eough to share his transition with the rest of the world. I also applaud those of you that may not necessarily understand it, but are still open-minded enough to accept it.

If you had an ounce of compassion you would realize that maybe he’s doing this because he feels it will make him happier, and honestly it’s none of your damn business. Also, please don’t generally assume that just because someone thinks that Gender Dysmorphia and other gender issues are actual disorders that they are “Liberal.” I’m extremely conservative and I’m a Christian, yet I’m not completely detached from human emotion and the plight of others. You’re hurting the conservative cause when you make these hateful generalizations. And yes, I do know 2 people who have undergone gender reassignment surgery. They are happier with their lives and are not ashamed. I am proud of them for being strong enough to make these changes even though society does not support them. Please take your hateful bile elsewhere and learn how to be a smidge more accepting of others differences.
