Here’s the video for the latest John Mayer release, “Who Says,” where the angsty crooner repeatedly laments about how society doesn’t want him getting stoned every night in his home alone. I know, dude. There’s so much pressure on you, with this non-threatening, nice-guy image you’ve worked so hard to cultivate, to stay away from drugs. Your fans will be shocked to know you want to get high sometimes.
Jesuschrist, John, you’re 31 years old. Is it maybe time to give up the stoner schtick? This song is such a gimme. Like “OMG John Mayer’s new song is about how he’s sick of people telling him he can’t smoke weed. That is so badass. I’m gonna go buy it on iTunes and play it while my girlfriend’s over and we’ll burn incense and candles and I’ll tell her not to give me head because I respect her too much for that, but I’ll let her know that it really does take the intimacy out of it when we use a condom. After that I’ll play ‘Your Body Is a Wonderland’ while we smoke a bowl and shower together. Then I’ll ask politely to put it in her ass.”
Seriously if you can’t find this song on iTunes under the title “Who Says” check for it under its alternate name, “Ode to a Frat Boy Douche.”
Best. Internal. Dialogue. Ever.
lmao. i ditto that. that was hilarious.
LOL Beet. Can’t stand this guy.
this is the funniest thing ive seen in a long time. i had to fb status it to spread the wealth. good shit, sasha, good shit.
When I first heard this song on the radio, I was like, is he saying “stoned”? I don’t know why I just shared that..
I love your hatered for him..I would hate him too if I didn’t love his voice so much..
Crap, something about this song is so heartbreaking … stupid, but I guess that’s what pop music’s about … trigger some responsive chord.
so like the tune and music is pretty good but wtf john, the government says you cant get stoned
And THAT post is why I read the Beet. Mayer is like the male Sheryl Crow for me…talented enough but so fucking annoying I just can’t take it.
Loved the dialogue.:-)
You’re totally missing the point of the song. It’s actually making fun of growing old and the whole “who says I can’t get stone” deal is part of that. Listen to the whole song, it’s a song for freedom.
He’s satirizing society…
eat shit and die
John Mayer, stated in a documentary (John Mayer Where the light is) that he builds a reputation for his music, and has to try to hide any bit of personal information at the same time (well that’s hard to do) It’s not a sense of entitlement for people to know what he does, it’s a sign of ignorance, if shares any bit of that information, hes certainly setting himself up, but then in this case it does go back to his song not his personal life. He’s ” is entitled to have what others have, (a private life) let the music melody blues & beats speak for themselves. That has to be enough.
