The always controversial Bill Maher made a statement with a ridiculously unpopular sentiment about the Tila Tequila domestic violence case on his show Sunday night that’s just now being picked up by lots and lots o’ gossip sites. Why would we leave you out on the scoop?
Maher, during the “New Rules” section of his show Real Time With Bill Maher, made the following comment about Tila’s claim that Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman assaulted her.
“New rule: stop acting surprised someone choked Tila Tequila! The surprise is that someone hasn’t choked this bitch sooner.”
Um, nice. While Merriman has been cleared of all charges due to zero evidence that any altercation even happened, it’s typically quite frowned upon to say that any woman has any violence coming to her. While we all may know Tila is a lying skank, there’s no reason to fuel the ignorant fire of all those people out there who manage to justify domestic violence by saying that the abused party was asking for it, male or female. No one, ever, deserves that behavior under any circumstances. That’d be why it’s illegal.
Oh, come on, he’s a comedian, and every one was thinking the same thing anyway. If your gonna give him shit about anything, you should start with why he’s dressed like some kind of teenage south Jersey metrosexual circa 2006.

I wouldn’t get your tits in a knot about this quote. Coming from someone who wasn’t a comedian and known for making outlandish statements for a laugh, it might be offensive. Coming from Bill Maher, it’s actually kinda funny, if in bad taste. But he makes his living off of saying crap like this. I say, no big deal.
While I’d definitely never argue with anybody that Bill Maher is anything but a totally arrogant, smug asswipe², it indeed should be noted that he made this statement during his New Rules segment on his HBO show (which nobody watches, anyways), and where he takes such potshots at celebrities and politicians on a regular basis. The show is a comedy, even though he tries to give the impression that it is a serious news discussion show. However, it primarily consists of him talking out of his ass and interviewing fellow ass-talkers with obliging views about the news of the day. Not a minute of his show should be taken seriously, unless you consider the opinions of such political experts like Sean Penn and Flava Flav to be of integral importance.
