I know we don’t cover the BritPop beat here all that much, but I felt this was noteworthy enough to mention.
After a fight with his brother/band frontman, Liam Gallager, Noel Gallagher has decided to leave Oasis. The brothers have always had a tumultuous relationship, but this break up is being treated as official. Things got so heated backstage at their Paris show that Noel pulled the plug at the last minute and walked out on the band, issuing this statement on the band’s website: “It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight … I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.” The fight escalated from a typical Gallagher brother squabble after Liam smashed Noel’s guitar one minute before they were expected to be on stage.
Whether this is truly sad for fans of the band or not is still up in the air. Oasis’ better touring years were far behind them and many fans consider the band to be Liam’s project anyway, with Noel just being a whiny, problem causing accessory.
I love Liam, but Noel writes all their songs. I think fans know without Noel’s songs the band will hire out and probably be alright but not the same.

No, Oasis was considered NOEL’S project, whilst Liam was the whiny accessory. Noel Gallagher was the driving force behind that band (my favourite) and it will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

Yep, you should learn your classics, Oasis was Noel’s project, and Liam was the whiny bitch. Without Noel’s songs they’re just another british band with an annoying singer.
Yep, as eluded to above, there’s no Oasis without Noel. He WAS Oasis. I wish him luck in his new endeavors.
I don’t really come on this site all that much so I’m not familiar with you molls but, yeah.. You’ve got it the other way around. Noel writes and plays guitar while Liam sings, gets drunk and acts like a bitch.

Noel is Oasis’ soul. Liam has improved in the last few albuns writing a few songs, but his voice is going downhill. I hope they can get over it and Noel goes back to the band. =(

The brothers apparently hated each other as small kids, and were in physical fights from a very young age, it went beyond simple sibling rivalry – they always have fought tooth and nail.
For as much as they felt like they were the second coming of Christ, and the Beatles they certainly didn’t have the musical legs they thought they would have. A lot of ego and just a bit more than one hit wonders. I wouldn’t have bothered to see them live but this was always going to happen, it was just a case of when it was going to happen.
I kind of loved the story of Liam choosing off a few German’s in a bar and the German’s knocked most of his teeth out for be a cocky prick, I believe they had to cancel a tour then too, because he had to have extensive oral surgery and appliances put in his mouth. Irony much?
I guess we can look forward to a Noel solo album and maybe a tour. He’s genius! And they’re going to get back together anyway someday…
The fighting Gallaghers, once again? Temper temper. They should get into the ring and duke it out. Might I suggest pistolas and Fenders at ten paces?
BUT is it for real this time? or just like the other 17 times they’ve broken up only to kiss and make up just in time to bring out another album?

I only hope it’s for real this time. They are a shite band and they are awful people and I even hate their football team. Please let this truly be the end of their asshattery.
Oasis – Liam’s idea . Noel joined up an year or two later .
Noel was the back bone . Writing em , making them , composing them .
Liam used to have a great voice back in the nintees . Now its all doped up . Noel still has it . All the accoustic versions released on 2007 were sung by Noel and were magnificent .
Noel Gallagher is a better person and a genius . Oasis have done this break up thing as much as Anniston has done hers :) .. Not that they would come back together or something , but they were not great the last four years anyway apart from the concerts .
But the fact remains , Oasis were a great band .

Noel was the brain and soul of Oasis…Liam was just the voice, and latelly it isn’t that good! Hope Noel bring on an amazing solo album…i son’t believe neither want a come back from Noel…i hope he is seriou this time.
