I asked, and you guys delivered. It looks like plenty of you have very strong relationships with some of these ABC shows. I can’t thank you guys enough for your help on this, you totally came through for me.
And now, as created by you, the readers, here are some of the reasons you should go buy ABC’s TV on DVD series …
Reasons to Watch Desperate Housewives
1) It is LOL funny. The have great writing and dialogue and some of the best one liners.
2) Even though they all have faults and they fight with each other, at the end of the day, their friendship is what makes this show work. They are always there for each other when times are tough. Think Sex and the City in the suburbs.
3) Hot, Hot guys with their shirt off.
4) It is about family. Even though they make mistakes as parents and they are flawed as human beings, you know they love their kids and will do whatever to protect them.
5) Each character plays someone we all know whether it be Susan who is unlucky in love or, Gaby who is vain and shallow. These woman play their roles not as caricatures but as real people. Great character development with depth and heart.
6) Since there’s so many different women, it has a lot of different storylines and its so interesting and captivating. I like that its not just about one person(s). There’s all the women, then their kids and their husband or boyfriends. I love that there’s so much going on, so even if you don’t like one of the storylines, there’s at least 2 or 3 other ones.
7) There’s always at least 2 or 3 really attractive guy on the show at one point or another.
8) Eva Longoria. Even as a straight women, I find her hot. And she plays Gabby perfectly. Also, I love how awkward Susan (Teri Hatcher’s character) is.
9) Recently, the storylines have gotten really intense and its not just about stupid jealousy stuff. People getting killed, teenage boys sleeping with grown women…
10) The gay next-door neighbors. They just so delicious. I love them, and Lee looks JUST like a gay guy I work with.
Reasons to Watch Samantha Who
1) Samantha Who is a quirky show. It doesn’t have intense drama, or action scenes, but it’s a genuinely funny show.
2) Usually, each show has a “lesson” of some sort. Whether it’s, “don’t stress over things you haven’t finished,” or “Don’t lie,” it gives you a sort of life lesson without saying, “HEY! CHILL THE FUCK DOWN, LISTEN TO ME, AND DO WHAT I TELL YOU TO.”
3) Christina Applegate is an amazing actress. Whether she’s being funny, clumsy, probably-should-have-thought-this-through Sam, or evil, bitch Sam, she always gives a good performance.
4) Sam has two best friends: Her childhood friend, Dena, and her adult friend, Andrea. They are basically the angel and devil on her shoulders, telling her what to do. They’re her hilarious conscience.
6). It’s my last chance, they canceled the show! Although why I’d watch it when they’re saying it isn’t good enough to continue… I will assume the reason is monetary. But I need a matching set, I’m compulsive in that way. I own Season 1.
7) That dude that plays her mentally abused boyfriend is a hottie! Every show he’s on gets yanked fast.. (think: ‘What About Brian’). A moment of pity for him, please! Nobody appreciates him. He needs me to watch him!
8) Sookie! I soooo miss Sookie from ‘Gilmore Girls’, and as Samantha’s plus-sized friend she is a sweet comic relief. TV needs more plus-sized women with charm!
9) Jean Smart! She won an Emmy Award, for pete’s sakes. How can they cancel a show with award winning actresses?
10) Christina Applegate totally ROCKS! She’s funny and made an awesome comeback after dealing with cancer. It’s just cruel to make her lose both her breasts AND her show in the same year. Tsk tsk!
11) Christina Applegate is hilarious. She loses her memory and when she has flashbacks she is shocked at what a total bitch she is…
12) Jennifer Espisito (Bradley Cooper’s ex) Plays one of her best friends Andrea who missed the old nasty bitchy Sam…and also acts like the old Sam…sort of like the devil on her shoulder.
13) Melissa McCarthy plays Dena, Samantha’s childhood friend who didn’t talk to her much when she was this bitch, but now she does. and she is a nice and nutty as Andrea is bitchy. Between having both best friends, there are some really funny moments.
14) It’s laugh out loud funny when Dena comes into the scene with anything from her weird obsession with her dogs to basically anything.
15) It’s a sleeper show. It’s good. and as the episodes go on, it gets funnier and it’s a nice mindless show that also has some cheesy lessons in it.
Reasons to Watch Scrubs
1) Dr Cox’s witty remarks, his sarcasm brightens my day.
2) The humour, but also the humanity in every episode, especially with JD’s conclusions.
3) It is the only TV series about doctors that doesn’t take itself seriously. At. All.
4) It is stupidly addictive – you could watch it from the beginning to the end and you wouldn’t get bored.
5) The acting is fantastic – the actors and actresses are fantastic in their roles.
6) There’s nothing else like it
7) Despite some people saying it got worse in the later seasons, there is no denying that it is still an original, fresh piece of work
8) It’s funny, both obviously and subtly
9) Despite the fact that it’s a comedy show, it’s now all shallow and up in the air. Real issues are dealt with, it makes you think. I feel that’s probably why some people say it’s gotten worse, but I think it makes the show even better
10) Zach Braff
11) It is a great show compared to any of the other medical shows out there, it really has a realistic feel that gets you attached to the characters. They don’t exaggerate what goes on like the other shows, rather, they are simple and honest with what could really happen in the hospital and in real life.
12) The characters are well balanced. You have J.D. and Turk as the regular dose of comedic relief with the side characters that can steal the spot light like Ted the lawyer and the Janitor. Amongst that you also have the serious doctor, Dr. Cox, who can be funny at times with his angry on-again-off-again-wife. The main characters love interest, Elliot, who is a fun blond that shows that any woman can get a great job and be fun at the same time. Also, Turk’s future wife in the later seasons, who is head nurse and shows that women can be powerful over anyone, especially men no matter what position they are.
13) The comedy thrown through out the show gives you a sigh of relief that helps you escape the real world. It brings a smile to your face and makes you see the truth of life in a fun aspect. While it brings a serious tone that shows true issues that can really happen no matter how fun something gets. It gives you that tinge of reality while the escape you need.
14) The music. I have watched many, many shows and I must say, this show has the best music choices for the scenes that require music. I know there are a lot of avid music listeners out there and you’ll definitely love the music they put into the show. You can be watching a scene and a song you would have never thought to use for said scene will start playing and you can’t help but enjoy how it actually meshes so well with the show. Believe me, you’re going to love it.
15) You get to grow with the characters. Compared to any other medical show or such, the characters don’t really change, they producers, directors, etc, they try to keep the characters the same. But in Scrubs, you get to see them grow as young adults fresh out of medical school, trying to identity themselves, what love is, what death is. You get to see their personalities change just like everyone should in real life. See them get married, have children, become a different person while keeping the same fun persona since episode one.
16) Just like Rob Lowe said in Wayne’s World, “it shows that there can be true love between two heterosexual men in a completely platonic relationship”!
17) After all of these years Dr. Cox still calls JD by girl names and I don’t think he’s repeated one.
18) I REALLY want to find out what Janitor’s name is.
19) Hoping Ted will FINALLY get a girl.
Reasons to Watch Brothers and Sisters
1) That family is so dysfunctional in so many ways, it makes you feel kinda okay with your family. In fact, it makes you think your family might actually be normal.
2) Kitty’s (Calista Flockhart’s) character is so….so Ally McBeal in her stuttering, stammering passionate way. I miss Ally McBeal. Therefore, Kitty is a good replacement.
3) It promotes gay marriage!
4) It’s real, it’s honest, it isn’t glammed-up, unrealistic bullshit
5) This show has an all-star cast.. Sally Fields Calista Flockhart and more! Some great talent that shows off the writer skills immensely.
6) The politics of this show is on edge and very up to date thru the eyes of a family with different opinions and views and the bonds that keep it stable.
7) The homosexual world is well voiced in this show. And marriage is promoted.
8) Its about a family that like everyone else has its problems BIG HUGE and small and yet they keep going. From a brother who came from the war to a brother who is gay to a sister whose marriage has fallen apart and more. If you find in life your a lonely person.. This show helps fill that void and gives you a semibreak from such feelings.
9) Alcohol-fueled mayhem. Family dinners, get togethers and celebrations wouldn’t be complete with out it.
10) DYB moments. (Damn You Berlanti. *Shakes fist*) It never fails, his shows always kill me.
11) Eye Candy; Rob Lowe. Dave Annable. Rob Lowe. Matthew Rhys. Enough said.
12) Scotty & Kevin. I used to detest Scotty, but now his relationship with Kevin is one of the greatest things about the show.
13) Sibling shenanigans. Given the title of the show, this is prtty much expected. But, seriously, you have no idea how awesome this is until you see it for yourself. So watch.
And I just had to share this list that one of you sent me, for reasons why you would be watching any of those shows:
1. You thought Lost was on.
2. You got stuck hanging out with your weird cousin’s wife.
3. You thought Lost was on.
4. You remote is broken and stuck on ABC because you watched Jimmy Kimmel the night before because you were super stoned.
5. Lost was supposed to come on instead they did a 2-hour Desperate Housewives.
I get that you don’t watch the shows so you couldn’t really write about them, but couldn’t you at least have corrected the spelling and grammar mistakes before posting?
No Greys Anatomy?? :(
Can a gossip site officially jump the shark or does that only relate to TV shows?
you forgot a big one on scrubs: NO LAUGH TRACK
No laugh track is a definate plus. SCRUBS does substitute the laugh track with musical punctuation where the laughs would be added.
I miss Pushing Daisies. :(
*pout* Me too. Is it on DVD yet?
I think it is check Amazon.com
All of these shows are horrible except Samantha Who which is tolerable. Anything remotely good on the 3 “majors” is canceled if it’s decent, which is why they don’t have the numbers of cable shows. It’s a glut of stupidity. I can’t imagine who would want to buy DVD’s of any of these shows, I would be embarrassed to have them in my home. I wish I had dvdr’d Pushing up Daisy’s though.
Really?? WFT is this novelish post about?
Ummm, who cares – I want dish, dirt and snarky comments about celebs.
We already found out the janitors name and ted is dating the girl with the ukelele
I nominate this post as the worst of the year.
Agreed. Ugh.
